Midnight Inbox Beta Reviews

Thursday, December 7, 2006

Remember how I said earlier this week that you shouldn't release a beta version of your product because when the final 1.0 is released you'll have bad reviews? It just happened to Midnight Inbox. It looks like a neat product, but it's already received a rating of 2.5 on MacUpdate. That's from five reviews, all of which were based on beta releases.

Of course, since there are only five reviews on the beta, it is possible to eventually overcome this poor rating with lots of good ratings. But it will take seven perfect (5 star) ratings just to pull the rating up to 4 stars. It's difficult for a lot of shareware products to get that many reviews, much less 5 star reviews.

I haven't tried it yet (that's on my To Do list), but the application looks really nice. I wish them a lot of success with their shiny new Mac application.
